First introduced to the North American market
in 1998, Singapore's math books are becoming the curriculum of
choice for many homeschoolers, and can now be found in various
schools in North America.
Singapore has the reputation of having one of the highest standards
of education in the world, especially in their maths. The math
curriculum is strong in mathematical reasoning. The approach in the
elementary grades is very visual, and line graphs are used as
visual aids to solve some of the word problems that would otherwise
require the use of algebra.
We carry the 3rd edition as well as the U.S. edition of Primary
Math. The Metric system is used in Singapore; the U.S. edition has
kept the metric exercises and added some imperial weights and
measures. As the scope and sequence is basically the same, students
could use either edition in the various levels to cover the
material. For more information on the differences between the 3rd
edition and the US edition, click here.
In Singapore, elementary (Primary) grades are 1 to 6.
High school (called Elementary in Singapore) is 4 years, followed
by 2-3 years of pre-university courses, using college texts.
